Cupping Therapy

What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping therapy is a technique that uses suction to lift and decompress the soft tissues of the body. By creating a vacuum effect (negative pressure), cups gently draw the skin and underlying tissues upward—offering an alternative therapeutic approach compared to traditional hands-on pressure.

While cupping has historical roots, it is used within massage therapy today as a modern, evidence-informed tool to support movement, recovery, and tissue health.

How Does Cupping Work?

Unlike traditional massage techniques that applies pressure into the tissue, cupping works by:

  • Lifting and decompressing soft tissue.

  • Creating space between layers of fascia and muscle.

  • Encouraging local circulation.

  • Supporting movement and tissue glide.

This different mechanical input can be especially helpful in areas that feel dense, restricted, or difficult to access with pressure alone.

Who may Benefit from Cupping?

This appraoch is well-suited for:

  • Active individuals managing training or work-related demands.

  • Those in rehabilitation looking to improve tissue mobility.

  • Anyone wanting to complement their massage therapy with an additional recovery-focused strategy.

*Cupping Therapy may not be suitable for everyone. If you have any underlying health concerns, it’s recommended to seek guidance from your healthcare provider prior to treatment.. Please ensure all relevant health information is shared during your intake and discussed with your RMT so your treatment can be safely and appropriately tailored to you.*
